The very fact that you chose to read through this list tells me at least one of two things. One you’re curious to see the difference between how the bible says a woman should act in contrast to how tv, movies, social media, and the news seem to dispense their own guidelines and/or two the spirit of God dwells in you and you have a desire to be who he called you to be and not the image that the world is trying to conform us to. I’m not gonna lie, The stuff I hear in movies or quotes I see on social media telling me how I should act and feel and think as women sound really good. The idea of feminism can be super motivational, make me feel empowered and independent. Everything this flesh wants to hear and feel, but if you remember, that is exactly how the serpent made eve feel. So empowered and independent from her husband or any other authority and it felt good. That being said this whole independent, empowered women thing is also what brought creation to its knees. For now let’s look at habits the word of God says a woman should have most of which are based on Titus 2:3-5.
Self-control is described as Physical and emotional self-mastery, particularly in situations of intense provocation or temptation. (1) Umm… Self-mastery? Yeah right. When I read that I literally laughed out loud. Me? Master myself? I am one of the most undisciplined people (ask my husband). So I asked the Lord in my heart, “How do I get there?” In my reading of God’s word, I realized the simplest of answers. Self-control is also one of the fruits of the spirit. Do you hear that? It’s a fruit of the spirit. The Lord puts his spirit in us and as we grow in him so do the fruits. As we seek him and desire His will in all things the more the fruits will grow.
The quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. To some, this comes easily and to some not so much. Kindness is imperative being that we represent our King and he has shown his kindness to us (Psalm 31:21), how much more should we show it to others.
This one is easy to skip over, but it’s basically speaking about our conduct. If we are acting and talking in a way contrary to the word of God chances are we are spotted by the world and we are called to be unspotted by the world (James 1:27)
Working at home
Touchy subject this one here, but before you throw it out the window under the “That is cultural” title. God did call women to take care of the home, to be a helper to our husbands and to raise our children in the fear of the Lord. (1 Timothy 5:14) Does that mean women shouldn’t work? Of course not! If you read about the Proverbs 31 women I would say she had her hands full. What’s the difference then? What comes first. The home for women specifically a woman with a family should be her number one priority. I know things happen, we get caught up, believe me I know! But let’s always commit to putting things in the right order.
Oh, another touchy subject that easily gets thrown under the “that is cultural” title. It’s hard, It’s very hard and there’s a reason why. It’s part of the curse. You see in Genesis 3:16 God says to eve “Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you” That means that Eve would desire to rule over her husband. But this is not the way God designed it. This can be hard to hear for some but the bible is clear (Ephesians 5:22-33). Being submissive to our husbands is not a punishment its one of the safest and satisfying place a woman could be.
Simple enough right? Not always, you see to many times we compare how we dress and act to the standards of the world and then say “Oh well at least I didn’t wear that” but let’s always be comparing our self to the word of God beholding his word as in a mirror so that we can be transformed from glory to glory. ( 2 Corinthians 3:18)
Love their husbands and their children
In a sense, this can be put in the working at home category because in doing so we are putting our husbands and children first. Thus loving them. This means turned down opportunities, stepping back from social media and business and anything that takes away from this priority.
Not malicious or gossipers
I don’t have to explain this one. There is really no middle ground here. Gossiping is simply wrong. That being said it can be so easy to get caught up in. Often times it begins so innocent and gradually turns into something we may not have even wanted. So let’s play close attention to our conversation and always desire to lift up instead of tear down.
Not enslaved to much wine
Now, wait a minute, Before some of you give up before the last one. I don’t think it’s saying here that you can’t have a glass of wine. The key here is that you are not enslaved to it. If you HAVE to have it. That’s a clue that you may need to ask God to help you step back and make sure your finding your satisfaction in Him and not in any substance.
Teach the younger women to do the same
And finally, a good habit of women is that you are teaching those who are younger than you to do the same. Leaving a godly legacy that no culture, trend or movement can tear down.
